This method is suitable for patients with myopia up to -10 diopters, also for patients with high astigmatism. It is also suitable for patients with a thin cornea and for patients with dry eyes or contact lens intolerance.
Process and principle of the operation
This state-of-the-art laser does most of the work by itself, creating a miniature incision in the cornea of the eye within seconds, carving out a tiny disk. It is this part of the cornea that contains unwanted diopters or astigmatism, which impair vision. The rest of the cornea remains intact and solid.
The procedure is very gentle and takes place on an outpatient basis, so you can return home on the evening of the operation day and function normally the next day. After a week, you can go back to sports without any worries. The femtosecond laser provides a quick and permanent solution for your vision, without the lengthy recovery and risks associated with traditional methods.

ReLEx Smile Pro: The pinnacle of Visumax 800 laser technology
The new ZEISS Visumax 800 femtosecond laser from Carl Zeiss, Germany is a state-of-the-art device that offers increased precision and personalized corneal modeling. Equipped with artificial intelligence and robotic arm assistance systems, this laser optimizes centering and compensates for the smallest rotations of the eye during correction. The Visumax 800 in Relex Smile Pro boasts a remarkable laser pulse frequency of not only 800 kHz, but also 2 MHz or 2000 kHz, which allows the creation of lenticules in less than 10 seconds. Higher cutting speeds combined with an innovative scanning system contribute to a shorter total procedure time – only 7-9 seconds per eye, which is about three times faster than ReLEx Smile.
RISKS AND LIMITATIONS
The SMILE Pro procedure is also suitable for patients with higher refractive errors, thinner corneas or dry eyes. With the SMILE Pro procedure, it is possible to treat myopic patients up to -10 diopters. For Femto-LASIK, treatment was recommended only up to a maximum of -8 diopters. A thinner cornea (min. 480 micrometers) is also not a problem because the cornea remains fully intact during the SMILE Pro procedure and the tissue removal is not as deep. Since, unlike Femto-LASIK, the nerves in the uppermost layer of the cornea, which are needed to regulate the tear film, are largely preserved, the risk of dry eyes after surgery is also reduced. Another advantage: Pain or a strong sensation of a foreign body on the cornea is hardly to be expected with SMILE Pro, since the laser treatment takes place inside the cornea.
