Safe and effective solution - cataract surgery
At present, there is no effective treatment for cataract other than a surgical replacement of the patient’s old lens with a new, artificial one (IOL). Without surgery, the cataracts will still proceed and may lead to blindness.
Cataract surgery is currently the most successful and safest surgery in the world thanks to the used technology and doctor with many years of practice. Patients, therefore, have nothing to fear.
At the same time, our patients have the opportunity to undergo cataract surgery using the FEMTO Z-CATARACT method, which uses the new, better, more accurate and safer Ziemer FEMTO LDV Z8 laser.
FEMTO Z-KATARAKTA - THE REVOLUTIONARY INNOVATION
Femtolaser-assisted cataract surgery brings an entirely new dimension of safety and efficacy in which implantation of the intraocular lens is performed using the latest femtosecond laser from a Swiss company Ziemer – FEMTO LDV Z8.
This method is much more precise and gentle compared to classic surgery. It is ideal especially for patients who have a fear of sharp surgical instruments, which are replaced by Femto LDV Z8 femtosecond laser. The corneal apertures required to enter the eye are created by a manual scalpel during the traditional cataract surgery. The company Ziemer creates them using the laser beam with a precision of Swiss technology.
The main advantages of using FEMTO LDV Z8 in cataract surgery
- Without sharp surgical instruments
- Greater safety, precision and gentle procedure
- 3D mapping of the eye structure
- Adaptation – tailor-made surgeries for each eye
- Lower risk of postoperative complications
- Faster post-operative healing
- A quicker return of vision
Difference in the course of the surgery
Femto laser pulses create small bubbles in the tissue, which leads to the separation of parts of the tissue. The surgery thus enables a very accurate and gentle creation of a hole in the lens capsule (capsulotomy), and its subsequent gentle crushing (fragmentation of the lens). In traditional surgery, the cloudy lens is separated and crushed using an ultrasound probe. Ziemer Z8 uses a laser beam for the lens fragmentation in small segments, facilitating its removal and providing less exposure of adverse energy on intraocular tissues - post-operative healing is thus much faster.
After the surgery
After the surgery, the eye remains covered for 24 hours. A checkup usually follows on the second day after the surgery, during which the eye is uncovered. You will have to apply eye drops every two hours. We recommend using sunglasses at least for a month. Other check up dates are individual and determined by the doctor.
- 1 Eye anesthetized with eye drops
- 2 Creating an opening in the front lens capsule with a laser
- 3 Removal of the clouded lens
- 4 Applying a new lens
- 5 Self-closing wound
THE FIRST STEP
Prior to the surgery, your eye is anesthetized with anaesthetic drops, so the surgery is performed in local anaesthesia. You will feel no pain with possible gentle pressure.
GO TO STEP 2Femtosecond laser ZIEMER FEMTO LDV Z8
Femtosecond laser FEMTO LDV Z8, which is used in the FEMTO Z-CATARACT method, is the latest laser from the workshop of the Swiss brand Ziemer. It differs from the other lasers by allowing a comprehensive surgery of the cornea.
Risks and limitations
In some cases, your vision after the surgery may be temporarily blurred, but it will clear up in the course of a few days. Most of the patients see well into the distance, but they need reading glasses. The duration of the incapacity for work is individual, but usually, it is a few days.
After the surgery there are exceptional problems with bleeding or infection, glaucoma or retinal detachment may also appear sporadically.
After the cataract surgery you can perform all the usual activities, however, we do not recommend increased physical activity, visit of a swimming pool, sauna, or the solarium. Vision stabilizes within 2-4 weeks and you will be able to enjoy your new vision.
