6 + 1 tips for healthy eyes
The eyes are a very sensitive organ. Hardly anyone can imagine life without sight, and poor vision complicates our life to a greater or lesser extent. We realise more intensely how important it is to us when it gets worse. And this is happening more and more often, especially in developed countries, including Slovakia.

In today's article we will share some tips on how to keep your eyes healthy for as long as possible and what to avoid if you want to reduce the risk of developing an eye disease or a refractive error. The fact is that some eye diseases cannot be influenced. Others, however, we influence directly or indirectly through our lifestyle, diet or by (not) skipping eye check-ups.
You should not neglect preventive eye check-ups at any age. The sooner the causes of vision problems are identified, the more easily and effectively they can be stabilised or eliminated. Not to mention that a comprehensive examination can also reveal serious systemic diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, HIV or tuberculosis.
It will probably surprise no one that smoky spaces are an unsuitable environment for the eyes; smokers face an increased risk of several eye diseases.
The eyes also need to be protected outdoors. Sunglasses with a UV filter prevent exposure to dangerous UV radiation. We recommend buying them at trusted opticians. At petrol stations or markets you cannot be sure that you are buying glasses with a good-quality filter.
What is more, if you decide on eye surgery now, you will get it with a special 1 000 € DISCOUNT. You will find more information, as well as the exact procedure for getting this discount, directly at this link about the campaign: We are giving away discounts worth one million EUR on eye surgery.

Tip 1 – keep your preventive check-up appointments
You should not neglect preventive eye check-ups at any age. The sooner the causes of vision problems are identified, the more easily and effectively they can be stabilised or eliminated. Not to mention that a comprehensive examination can also reveal serious systemic diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, HIV or tuberculosis. Tip 2 – pay attention to your work and home environment
The work environment, but also the study or home environment, has a significant influence, especially on the development of so-called acquired short-sightedness. Long hours in front of a computer, on mobile phones or in front of the television, besides emitting blue light that is dangerous for the eyes, together with dry air or draughts cause the eyes to dry out. We forget to blink, so our eyes are not sufficiently moistened by tears. As a result, they are more prone to infection or injury. Dehydration has a similar effect, which is another reason why we should literally learn to keep up a regular drinking routine. Air conditioning also dries the eyes.It will probably surprise no one that smoky spaces are an unsuitable environment for the eyes; smokers face an increased risk of several eye diseases.
The eyes also need to be protected outdoors. Sunglasses with a UV filter prevent exposure to dangerous UV radiation. We recommend buying them at trusted opticians. At petrol stations or markets you cannot be sure that you are buying glasses with a good-quality filter.
Tip 3 – diet is the foundation of a healthy body
Even a small child knows how important a balanced diet full of vitamins and minerals is for the body. It is just as important for the eyes and for maintaining good eyesight. Your diet should not lack vitamins A, C and E, beta-carotene, the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, omega-3 fatty acids or zinc. You should eat mainly vegetables and fruit – excellent choices are, for example, carrots, parsley, leafy vegetables, broccoli, tomatoes, beetroot, spinach, courgette, sweetcorn, pumpkin, but also cherries, mango, oranges, kiwi or mango. Of animal products, liver, milk and fish have positive effects.Tip 4 – do not skip exercise and sport
Like diet, exercise and sport are important for the whole body, not only for the eyes. They directly influence eyesight, for example, by balancing out focusing on very close objects – such as a monitor screen – with focusing on distant objects. Outdoors there are many stimuli that "force" us to look into the distance and thus do not allow our ability to focus into the distance to gradually become dulled. Spending time in nature and doing sport also naturally pull us away from mobile phones and computers. Last but not least, although indirectly, exercise benefits good eyesight by reducing the risk of systemic diseases such as high blood pressure or diabetes, which can subsequently cause an eye disease.Tip 5 – hygiene is a must
Transferring a virus, bacteria or a small solid particle into your eye with your fingers is easier than it might seem. Dirty hands open the way to infection, inflammation and mechanical damage. People with allergies, but also contact lens wearers, for example, are more prone to eye damage in this way. Try to avoid rubbing your eyes, never handle contact lenses with unwashed hands, and if a lens falls out of your eye, replace it with a new one.Tip 6 – do not forget your corrective aids
Corrective aids are not ideal for the patient in terms of sport, work or everyday activities. Especially prescription glasses tend to be very impractical and limiting. However, if your vision is blurred and your doctor prescribes them, wear them. Without them you squint in an effort to focus, putting excessive and unnecessary strain on your eyes and brain. This increases the risk of further deterioration of your eyesight and also of non-ocular problems such as eye pain and headaches, fatigue or nausea.Bonus tip – good eyesight again
If you have lost your good eyesight, or if you have never known life with it, we have a bonus tip for you. It is not about how to protect your eyesight, but how to get it back. The only way to get rid of distance and near vision problems for good and to treat yourself to a life without glasses or any other corrective aids is laser eye surgery. We recommend one of the most modern surgical methods, such as CLEAR, ReLEx SMILE 3D or Z-Lasik, which are painless, fast, gentle to the eyes and carry a minimal risk of post-operative complications. You will very quickly find out what a joy it is to have "a life with good eyesight."What is more, if you decide on eye surgery now, you will get it with a special 1 000 € DISCOUNT.
